Sustainable Summer Style Watchon June 11th, 2011 at 4:49 am
Calling all (eco) fashionistas! Who says there’s no shopping in Santa Cruz? Trust my credit card bills, it’s here – you just need to know where to look.
If fact, I would argue that in Santa Cruz we have a style all our own – city sophisticate it isn’t, but our boho-chic signature look struts the style line between trendy and unique. AND, we’re one of the few fashion meccas with a focus on sustainability for an added depth and character that stands on its own.
So color it befitting that my summer style trend investigation led me no further than Pacific Ave for a check in with Teja Kapadia at trendy eco-boutique Twist, where with the help of gorgeous models Marah Deininger and Vidya Kulavil, we pulled together some of our favorite new looks for the coming Summer season.
Loose, flowing and layers are prominent themes this summer, and Mara shines here in a luminous Vintage Ginger silk chemise by Ginger Lamb designs. This innovative designer embodies the boho look to a tee with her silk Indian-inspired clothing made from authentic recycled sari’s. Paired here with True Religion’s Joey jeans and a pair of funky platform heels, this is a perfect look to carry you into summer.
Meet the season head-on in linen, cotton and other natural fabrics. Vidya and Marah rock these casual embroidered cotton dresses with tailored over-sized bags, broad-brimmed hats and sexy sunglasses.
This season’s flowing asymmetrical tops make a flattering style statement with fitted skirt or capris. Finish this flirty look with platform wedges, cork-heeled shoes or gladiator sandals.
Spotlight on accessories: Embrace color boldly! Balance neutral colors with gorgeous summer brights – think green, turquoise, gold and orange. Bohemian silk scarves and Dangly feather earrings are must-haves this season. Use chunky bracelets, rings and bangles to personalize your creative, unique look. Most importantly, have fun with it!
So keep it local, own your style and shop sustainably this summer!
Huge thanks to Teji, Lara and Twist for loaning their fabulous resale and locally-made apparel and accessories for this shoot!
